Community isn’t built through grand gestures, it’s built through everyday moments of connection. For Afghan veterans and their families rebuilding their lives in the United States, community can be the difference between simply resettling and truly belonging.
When neighbors open their doors, share their time, and extend genuine welcome, they help transform unfamiliar places into homes. Supporting community doesn’t require expertise, just presence, empathy, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel seen and included.
How can you help?
As a Good Neighbor: you can take time to welcome Afghans into your local community. When you set up a playdate for your kids, host local gatherings, or coach a sports team, consider inviting Afghan families to participate. These simple acts help create meaningful connections and foster a true sense of belonging.
As a Mentor: you can support Afghan veterans and their families as they navigate everyday life in the United States—from understanding basic systems to building confidence in a new environment. Life in America offers opportunity, but it can also feel overwhelming due to cultural differences and unfamiliar societal norms. Your guidance makes a lasting difference, helping families become confident, healthy, and active contributors to their communities.
As an Employer: Across every survey we’ve conducted, meaningful employment has consistently emerged as a top priority identified by the Afghan veterans we serve. By inviting Afghan veterans into local or virtual employment opportunities, along with skills-building workshops and professional development programs, you help create pathways to purpose, stability, and long-term success.
